About Chooktopia
'Chooktopia' is a symbol of our sustainability journey.
It doesn't matter where your sustainability journey starts, as long as it does start. When we started with chooks, discovered a whole new way to connect with people about the topics I'd been sharing as an environmental educator for 10 years. I discovered a whole new way of connecting with communities and inspiring people. Chooktopia was born.
Chooktopia's core values are about promoting grassroots sustainability without the misleading ‘greenwash’.
It grew out of 10 years of research into products and concepts that advocate for a healthy garden, healthy home, and a healthy planet.
Whether it’s having the world’s happiest worm farm and chooks, creating a backyard wildlife paradise, painting your house with food-grade paints, Christmas shopping without all the waste, or protecting orangutans through switching to no-palm-oil shampoo and biscuits, Chooktopia aims to provide you with the information, answers, and product alternatives to help you turn your negative impact into a positive one.

About our store
Many eco stores are misleading.
They might call themselves "eco", but their products destroy habitat. Take "Eco Store" for example. They call them selves an Eco store, yet their main ingredient is palm oil. Sure, let's wipe out rainforest, bengal tigers and orangutans, just so they can make money off you.
This store is different.
It is not my primary source of income, so there is no hard sell. It is an educational opportunity to share with you honest and genuine information about what is truely 'eco' and what is plain "greenwash". Whilst there are products for sale (and there is an intention to supplement my income by selling them), I have done significant research and stock products that meet my criteria, in order to serve my primary objective of educating consumers.

Ethical consumption
My research into sustainable products over the years has revealed a lot of 'greenwash'. Greenwash in a nutshell is when a company uses words such as "eco", "green" or "environmentally friendly" to describe a product, when it really isn't very green at all.
You will find a wealth of information on this in my "Learn" section, including some naming and shaming of brands and companies that are guilty of this, such as "Eco Store".
To help consumers see through the BS, I have been scouring the country looking for only the best of the best products that are genuinely an ethical and environmentally preferable alternative to other products on the market.
My store will only ever stock products that I am satisfied meet all my ethical standards, are cruelty free, palm oil free, and will help you reduce your negative impacts on the planet.
From time to time I will stock educational gifts for kids as well, which inspire creativity and learning about the planet, though (in the case of little solar toys) don't necessarily meet my low milage and fair trade passions. These items are included from a more socio-environmental perspective - getting kids off the couch and away from the playstation, to learn about the sun, and simply get them outside. So to avoid the greenwash, I'll point out, it's not that the kids' solar toys are made from 'green' materials, but more that they have an environmental purpose in what they set out to achieve.
